Why Shorepine
Principal-led government relations. State and Federal Affairs. Every engagement handled directly by the principal.
Native to the Pacific Northwest coast
The shore pine is native to the Pacific Northwest coast — resilient, deeply rooted, adapted to both exposed shoreline and sheltered inland terrain alike. It endures through conditions that would break less-established trees. That character defines how we approach our work: grounded in place, capable of navigating difficult terrain.
We chose the name because it reflects a conviction about how government relations work should be practiced — not as a transactional service, but as a sustained partnership with clients whose success depends on institutional knowledge, trusted relationships, and the kind of judgment that only comes with time.
A boutique advisory firm grounded in Washington State
Shorepine Government Relations is a principal-led boutique advisory firm based in Olympia, Washington. We represent state agencies, municipalities, and nonprofits before the Washington State Legislature and state agencies. Every engagement is handled directly by the principal — no junior staff, no hand-offs, no account management layers between you and the person who knows your issue.
We maintain a deliberately small book of two to three active retainer clients. This isn't a limitation — it's a design choice. It means every client receives the full attention of the principal, that institutional knowledge doesn't fragment across a staff, and that our advocacy reflects genuine prioritization rather than portfolio management.
Three principles that shape every engagement
Grounded in place
We are a Washington State firm. Our understanding of the legislature — its members, its rhythms, its political coalitions — is built over years of direct engagement, not assembled from a national database. We are not a multi-state firm with a Washington presence. We are a Washington firm.
Built for the long relationship
We work on retainer, not project-by-project. That structure reflects our belief that effective government relations requires continuity — consistent advocacy, institutional memory, and the kind of relational trust that takes sessions to build and can be lost quickly. Our best work happens in year three, not month one.
Principal accountability
Every client engages with the principal directly. There are no junior staff intermediaries, no account managers, no hand-offs. The person who knows your issue is the person in the room. This is a choice that limits how many clients we can serve — and ensures the quality of service for those we do.
The right fit matters as much to us as it does to you.
We take on a limited number of clients each year. We'd welcome a conversation about whether Shorepine is the right partner for your organization.
